Recognizing Phishing Scams

Phishing scams are fraudulent attempts to steal your personal information, login credentials, or financial data by impersonating trusted organizations. Learn how to identify and protect yourself from these common threats.

What Is Phishing?

Phishing is a type of cyber attack where scammers send fake emails, messages, or create fraudulent websites that appear to be from legitimate companies. Their goal is to trick you into revealing sensitive information like passwords, credit card numbers, or personal details.

How to Identify Fake Emails

Phishing emails often contain telltale signs that reveal their fraudulent nature. Look for these red flags:

  • check_circleSender email address doesn't match the official domain (e.g., not from @markforge.xyz)
  • check_circleGeneric greetings like "Dear Customer" instead of your name
  • check_circleSpelling and grammar errors throughout the message
  • check_circleUrgent language demanding immediate action or threatening account suspension
  • check_circleRequests for sensitive information like passwords or credit card numbers
  • check_circleSuspicious links that don't match the official website URL
